e-instruments have announced the launch of Desolate Guitars Fragments, the first release in a new series of free software instruments.
Based on the full version of Desolate Guitars, the new Fragments variant centres around the Chime Guitar preset found in its fully featured sibling. Embodying a sound that has shaped music for decades, the release delivers an iconic guitar tone captured via a pair of popular amps alongside an authentic spring reverb signal and a modelled tremolo effect — there's also an expressive vibrato function. The sound is described as “rich, airy and instantly recognisable”, and is said to be ideal for everything from creating lush-sounding chords and phrases to adding some texture to modern productions.

Desolate Guitars Fragment runs in Native Instruments’ Kontakt or Kontakt Player versions 7.6.1 or higher, which are supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 11. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
