Brass library expanded and improved

Valves by e-instruments brass quintet ensemble solo sample phrases library flugelhorn french horn trombone euphonium tuba

Valves Pro is the latest collaboration between e-instruments and Native Instruments, and provides a more in-depth version of Valves, their recently released brass ensemble sample library. Featuring pre-recorded phrases as well as solo and ensemble samples of softly-played flugelhorns, French horns, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas, the library once again focuses providing a more subtle-sounding alternative to many brass libraries.

Solo, Ensemble and Phrase patches are provided for each instrument, allowing users to play the instruments as a whole section, program individual parts, or trigger over 200 pre-recorded phrases. When playing an instrument in Solo mode, players can take advantage of a Virtuoso articulation, which intelligently selects articulations based on velocity or pitch-bend rather than relying on keyswitches to quickly produce realistic performances. Ensemble patches then benefit from individual articulation slots for each instrument — which can still be controlled by keyswitches — along with an Auto Divisi feature which will automatically assign multiple notes being played at the same time between instruments.

Valve Pro’s Phrase Player is equipped with over double the number of articulations and phrases of its smaller sibling. It is possible to create custom phrases from scratch as well as utilising pre-recorded ones, and tempo-synced articulations can be placed on the section’s grid, ensuring everything stays neatly in time whilst leaving the player to focus on their chord progressions. Some variation can be added to the sequenced parts using a dedicated Moments slider, and by adjusting the looping points of phrases.

All of the libraries articulations have been recorded in isolation to provide maximum flexibility when programming parts, and a comprehensive Mixer page offers access to independent levels, solos and mutes for every instrument. There are also two send effects and two master effects slots, with the library boasting built-in reverbs, delays, filters, EQs, saturation processors and more, and the master effects section also features an LFO which can be used to introduce some modulation and create dynamic, evolving effects.
