Waves have announced the launch of a new plug-in that’s been designed to make quick work of laborious drum-replacement tasks. InTrigger is said to be capable of ‘learning’ a drum track with a single click, while ensuring samples aren’t erroneously triggered by the likes of ghost notes and bleed.
Getting started with InTrigger is as simple as hitting the Learn button, and the plug-in will respond by analysing the incoming signal and detecting the main drum component. Waves say that it’s capable of differentiating between wanted hits and unwanted elements such as bleed, and as such is capable of providing more reliable results than the competition, although there are some controls that allow users to carry out some fine-tuning.
The plug-in includes Waves’ COSMOS, an AI-powered sample manager, which gives instant access to users’ collection of samples and provides real-time auditioning from within the plug-in. One-shots can be loaded directly into InTrigger’s built-in sampler — up to eight sample layers are supported — which is kitted out with tools for adjusting the level, panning, tuning and delay of each sample. There’s also a Humanize control, which applies random changes to each hit’s envelope and dynamic properties to ensure that tracks retain a natural and expressive feel.
As well as offering a solution for drum replacement in the studio, there’s a dedicated version of the latest plug-in designed for Wave’s eMotion LV1 and SuperRack systems. Named InTrigger Live, the performance-focused version offers significantly reduced latency, features a manual threshold rather than the Learn function, and supports up to four sample layers rather than eight.

InTrigger is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 13 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
