IK Multimedia’s latest iRig device combines a multi-pattern capacitor microphone with a 24-bit/96kHz audio interface. The iRig Stream Mic Pro also boasts an additional stereo input, as well as on-board monitoring and loopback facilities, providing an all-in-one portable recording and streaming solution that is compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, and PC devices.

The microphone employs a pair of half-inch capsules and offers a choice of cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-of-eight polar patterns, as well as a stereo mode which allows each capsule to be routed to its own independent output. A switchable high-pass filter is also present, and can be engaged at 60, 100, or 200 Hz.

A 3.5mm mini-jack connector allows an additional stereo line-level signal to be connected directly to the iRig Stream Mic Pro, with its output routing determined by two possible interface operation modes. When used in the default 2-Channel mode the device will provide two output channels to a DAW or streaming software, offering a summed stereo mix of both the microphone and external input; a Multi-Channel mode will present four outputs to the host software, allowing the microphone and external input signals to be recorded onto separate tracks.

A second 3.5mm mini-jack socket provides a headphone output which can be used for direct monitoring of the signal from the microphone, as well as any audio routed into the iRig Stream Mic Pro from connected host software via the USB connection. Any audio received over USB can then be routed back to the device’s outputs by engaging the loopback function. This can be particularly helpful when using streaming applications that do not have any built-in audio processing features: the device’s signals can be routed to a separate application to have processing or effects applied, with the final mix then sent to the streaming service via the iRig Stream Mic Pro.

All of the device’s functionality can be controlled from a single multi-function knob placed on the front of the microphone’s body. Gain, muting, headphone and stream output levels, loopback, monitor mix, polar pattern selection, and high-pass-filter settings can all be configured directly on the device, with an LED ring surrounding the control providing a visual indication of the current settings.

The iRig Stream Mic Pro is equipped with mini-DIN output, and comes supplied with USB-C and Apple Lightning adapter cables, enabling it to be connected directly to a wide range of mobile and desktop devices. It is powered by its host, although an optional power adapter is also available. A selection of software is also provided with each purchase, including IK Multimedia’s iRig Recorder 3 LE for iPhone, iPad, and Android, MixBox CS for iPad, and MixBox SE for Mac and PC.
