Canadian mic manufacturers Kel Audio have announced a new large-diaphragm condenser: the Song Sparrow. Designed for vocal recording (and apparently very well suited to female vocals), the side-address mic features an “open, airy top-end response”, courtesy of its one-inch capsule, which is mated to a dual-FET transformerless circuit.
Of the electronics, Kel Audio say that although the design has deliberately been kept simple to bring costs down, great care has been taken to make the signal path as clean and transparent as possible, by only using high-quality components (such as WIMA capacitors, for example).
Boasting a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz (±5dB), the mic ships with an aluminium flight case and elastic shockmount, and will be available to buy directly from Kel Audio from April, at a price of $349.
