In our latest Mix Rescue feature, SOS Editor in Chief Sam Inglis revisits a project from back in 2019, carrying out some additional overdubs and crafting new mixes for Cambridge-based band Ember Rev’s third album, From The Country To The City To The Sea.
As well as being treated to some arrangement changes and fresh mixes, the material was sent to mastering engineer Ian Shepherd, who had been responsible for the masters of the original recording. To accompany his words in the article, Ian has created a video where he demonstrates the difference between the new and original masters, and how the two distinct approaches to the mix have influenced the end results.
