KV331 Audio release SynthMaster 2

Large update to modular Windows VST
KV331 Audio may not have the catchiest name, but they do make a strong product: SynthMaster. It’s a Windows VST plug-in, in which modules (such as oscillators and filters) can be arranged to create a custom synthesizer or processor. The first version received a brief but positive write-up in SOS February 2007, and V2 has a lot more features.

Every synth voice in SynthMaster 2 consists of two layers, each of which can contain two oscillators, two filters, four modulators, four ADSR envelopes, and far more besides. As well as using standard wave shapes, the oscillators can be configured as wavetable oscillators, using up to 16 wavetables to create evolving sounds.

All of the filters have been upgraded with an analogue-style ‘ladder’ filter option for a ‘warmer’ tone, and modulation routing has been expanded to the point where any continuous parameter can be automated via LFO or MIDI. Over 580 SynthMaster presets are included, along with 450 wavetable presets to get you started, all of which can be browsed through by genre and type.

SynthMaster costs $59 until 31st December 2009, after which time it will cost $99. A demo can be downloaded from the KV331 web site.
