A free update has been released for MeterPlugs' standalone application Loudness Penalty Studio, bringing a range of performance improvements, new analysis tools and expanded reporting features in version 1.5. We reviewed the original release in SOS Aug 2024, which you can read here. The new update focuses on speed, flexibility and clearer feedback when evaluating how music will translate across streaming platforms.
The application's code has been significantly optimised, with the developer reporting performance to be at least twice as fast as the original release. This makes batch analysis and comparison workflows noticeably quicker, particularly when working with larger groups of files.
Version 1.5 introduces several new analysis and matching tools. A new Short-term Loudness Profile display provides a visual overview of how loudness evolves across a track, helping users understand why some material appears more prominent on streaming platforms than others. New matching methods include Match Lowest LUFS, allowing groups of files to be aligned to a common loudness reference, and Match Top of LRA, a more musical approach designed to reveal whether perceived improvements come from dynamics or simply increased level.
One of the most requested additions is the ability to export detailed PDF reports, making it easier to archive results or share loudness analysis with clients. Smaller updates include the addition of LRA values in the Table View, a new Loudness Crosshair tool and a number of general fixes and refinements.
