Michael Brecker seeks marrow donor

M Audio join US-wide appeal

Influential jazz saxophonist Michael Brecker is seriously ill and in need of a compatible bone marrow or blood stem cell donor.

M Audio are offering to pay for as many people as possible to get tested at any US National Marrow Donor Program center.

Testing only involves giving a mouth swab or blood sample in order to identify your tissue type and, should a match for Michael or anyone else be found, advances in modern medicine mean that becoming a donor is completely safe and involves only a little discomfort.

A match for Michael is most likely to come from someone of Eastern European Jewish descent, so a particular appeal is being made to anyone who fits this description. But it's worth stressing that by going to get tested you could also save the life of one of the thousands of people still in need of a donor.

There's more information on the appeal and the process of becoming a donor on the M Audio web site.
