MicW come to the UK

eMerging appointed as UK distributors

Beijing-based microphone makers MicW have recently been made available in the UK, courtesy of UK distributors eMerging. MicW have an interesting back-story: they started out 12 years ago as a manufacturer of test and measurement microphones, but have recently broken into the recording market, and the company were at the recent Musikmesse in Frankfurt to display 11 new models.

Of these, the most relevant to music recording are the N241, a small-diaphragm omnidirectional condenser designed to cope with high SPLs, and therefore suitable for close-miking brass instruments; the N255 and CN255, which have a similar design to the N241 but feature a wide cardioid polar pattern (the ‘CN’ version is slightly more compact, making it suitable for broadcast applications); the HN101 and CN201, which are both omni mics (the former suited to strings and vocals, and the latter “perfect for drums, guitar, bass, percussion, speech or vocals”); the HN151 and BN151, both vocal mics; and the HG106, a gold-diaphragmed mic designed for close-miking applications.

We’ll be putting a selection of MicW’s wares to the test in the near future, but in the mean time, check out the MicW web site, below, for more detailed information.
