The latest addition to Neural DSP’s hardware line-up is an ultra-compact pedal that combines amp and cabinet simulation with a collection of built-in effects, providing a portable, all-in-one solution for guitarists and bassists. The Nano Cortex uses the same technology found in the company’s Quad Cortex unit, allowing users to create a digital version of any amp, drive pedal or cabinet, or a combination of all of them!
Thanks to Neural DSP’s innovative Neural Capture technology, the pedal kits users out with a huge collection of modelled amps. Out of the box, it comes loaded with classics including a Marshall Silver Jubilee, Peavey 5150, Mesa/Boogie JP2C, Fender Princeton 65, Diezel VH4 and an Ampeg SVT Classic, with thousands more available for free via the company’s Cortex Cloud platform. As well as the ready-made collection of rare and sought-after classics, users can also capture their own custom rigs.
Along with the vast collection of amps, the pedal also boasts an advanced IR (impulse response) loader that comes with 10 studio-quality IR files pre-installed. Each IR offers a choice of five mic model options and six positions, providing users with highly customisable cabinet simulation capabilities. There’s support for custom content here, too, with another 256 spaces allocated for user-imported IR files.
Moving on to effects, the Nano Cortex includes two pre-amplifier processing blocks that include an Adaptive Gate processor, and three post-amplifier blocks that can utilise a range of effects include a Boss DC-2W-style chorus, a vintage-inspired delay, and a Mind Hall Reverb processor that provides a range of ambiences that range from small rooms to large halls.
