Probably the most important element to get right when producing drum & bass, jungle breakbeat (and certainly the one that seems to elicit the most questions from budding producers) is the bass line. The release, then, of D-Bass Kontrol by sample vendors Future Loops should come as good news to anyone who’s been struggling with this aspect of their beat creation. A collection of presets for Native Instruments’ Massive soft-synth, there are 25 presets in total, each with eight Macro controls, which allow you to tweak the preset to suit your style. It’s not just bass lines on offer, however: there are also some synth lead sounds in amongst the basses, and Future Loops describe them as “utterly nasty and downright dirty” — which, for any other genre, would be quite the turn-off!
