Nordic Audio Labs have recently announced the launch of a new capacitor mic that employs their own original D100K capsule and proprietary FloFET technology.
Named the NK-24K, the new mic is said to embody the experience of the company’s lead designer and CEO Martin Kantola, who has spent the past 30 years developing high-end microphones. The latest addition to the line-up is a solid-state FET microphone, but sounds and behaves more like a valve mic thanks to the company’s FloFET technology, even though there are no valves or transformers to be found.
Based around Nordic Audio Labs’ own D110K, a 30mm edge-terminated large-diaphragm capsule, the NK-24K boasts an excellent off-axis phase response along with a realistic transient response and a smooth-sounding high end. It’s voiced for big, modern vocal sounds, although the company say that it makes a great choice for a tackling a wide range of different sources, and that the resulting recordings will be be much more accepting of EQ and other processing than many of its competitors.
Each model is hand-made in Finland, and comes with a 10-year warranty.
