The Other Songs have announced that their recent The Other Songs Live event, which took place at the London Palladium on 16 May 2023, raised over £65,000 for two arts education institutions: The Brit School and Ivors Academy. Both charities will use the funds to help nurture talented young songwriters and artists, regardless of background.
The event was a culmination of the longstanding work of The Other Songs’ founders, Al and Billy Webber, who have dedicated their careers to championing songwriters and providing up-and-coming artists with a platform to showcase their talent.
A celebration of true musical excellence, the line-up brought together a collection of artists with a combined total of five Academy Awards, 10 Grammy Awards and 28 Ivor Novello wins.
Renowned songwriters including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jimmy Napes, All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis, Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, London Grammar’s Dot Major, Guy Garvey, Richard Kerr, Fraser T Smith, Pam Sheyne, Slumdog Millionaire composer AR Rahman and Ruth Anne Cunningham all captivated the audience, and remarkable performances were also delivered by emerging talents Seren, Rachel Chinouriri and Nia Smith.
Following the success of the event, Al Webber, Co-Founder of The Other Songs has announced plans for its return next year, saying: “It was a surprisingly successful year one — songwriters sold out The London Palladium, raised £65,000 for music charities and members of the public became obsessed with music publishing! Therefore, I am delighted to announce that we'll be doing it all over again next year during Ivors Week 2024!"
The Other Songs Live was sponsored by The BPI, WME, Tysers Insurance and Risk Management Solutions, Warner Chappell Music, ATM, MPA, UMPG and ASCAP.
