Primacoustic, the acoustics specialists behind such products as the Recoil Stabilizer, have launched a useful-looking mic-stand isolator.
Designed for use on kick drum mics, the KickStand employs the same isolation-reduction and mass-introduction principles as the Recoil Stabilizer, whereby a layer of high-density foam decouples the stand from the floor (a common carrier of low-frequency energy, particularly when recording drum kits), and a steel platform, sited atop the foam, adds mass to the boom stand, increasing inertia and stabilising the boom (and, therefore, the microphone capsule). Furthermore, Primacoustic say that the steel platform has been designed to “eliminate” standing waves, and this has presumably been achieved by paying careful attention to the platform’s dimensions.
The Primacoustic Recoil Stabilizer is available to buy now, at a price of £70 including VAT.
