PSI Audio launch first extended main monitor system

Combines A226-MAIN & A326 D-REX

PSI Audio A226-MAIN A326 D-REX full-range high-end studio monitoring system

Not long after the introduction of the A326 D-REX, PSI Audio have announced the availability of the first extended main monitor system in the company’s history.

The new system combines the recently released A326 D‑REX with the already powerful A226‑MAIN, creating a seven-driver system that’s capable of delivering SPLs of up to 132dB. The A226-MAIN is an active, all-analogue, three-way speaker that employs a pair of symmetrically mounted 10-inch woofers along with the company’s EXD midrange driver and an all-new aluminium coil tweeter. It’s certainly not limited in its capabilities as a standalone unit, spanning a frequency range of 20Hz to 23kHz and promising perfectly phase alignment from 100Hz upwards.

The A326 D-REX adds three more low-frequency drivers, but seeing as the A226-MAIN is already capable of reproducing frequencies as low as 20Hz, PSI Audio say that the A326 doesn’t actually fit the description of a subwoofer. Instead, they refer to it as a Dynamic Range EXtender, as its sole purpose when paired with their flagship main monitor is to increase headroom rather than extend the system’s low-end response. For those wishing to use the A326 D-REX for an LFE channel, the company have included a mode that extends its frequency response up to 160Hz.

For the first time, PSI Audio are now offering the two models as a combined main monitoring system. The two units can be stacked together as a column, or placed side-by-side, depending on the installation requirements.

Prices and availability

The A226-MAIN and A326 D-REX are available now, with pricing information available through authorised PSI Audio dealers. The company say that a version with physically separate electronics is currently in development.
