Prodipe Pro Ribbon 5 & Pro Ribbon 8

Ribbon monitors join the Prodipe pack
French manufacturers Prodipe have added two ribbon-tweeter-equipped active monitors to their range of cost-effective products for home and project studios. The new speakers, the Pro Ribbon 5 and the Pro Ribbon 8, feature five- and eight-inch low-frequency drivers respectively, and both employ the same rectangular tweeter, which uses a ribbon of metallic foil to create the movement of air that generates the high-frequency information.

Both monitors are bi-amplified, meaning each driver has its own dedicated amplifier; the five-inch model uses a pair of 75-Watt amps, with twin 140-Watt amps powering the larger model. They both have ported baffles, which help to beef-up the low end, leading to the Ribbon 5’s ability to extend to 50Hz and the Pro Ribbon 8 to go as low as 45Hz.

The rear panel of both monitors has an unbalanced input on a phono socket, and balanced inputs on both TRS jack and XLR. A volume knob allows the user to attenuate the input signal by up to 30dB or add up to 6dB of gain, and there’s a switched ‘HF Level’ control that can cut or boost the output of the amplifier that feeds the tweeter.

Both new Prodipe monitors are shipping now. The Pro Ribbon 5s cost 399 Euros per pair (just under £350 at the time of writing), while the Pro Ribbon 8s retail for 499 Euros (£430). Visit the Prodipe web site for more information.
