The right tools for the job

New range from Primacoustic

Canadian acoustics specialists Primacoustic have announced a handful of new products, under their new IsoTools range. First up is the Voxguard, an absorptive device designed to sit around a vocal microphone and reduce the amount of room noise reaching the microphone’s diaphragm. The outer shell is constructed from ABS plastic, and is designed to screw directly onto a mic stand, while a layer of high-density, open-cell foam lines the inside of the Voxguard, and this provides the absorption.Crashguard

The Crashguard, meanwhile, sits atop drum mics and serves two purposes: first, it protects the microphone from being hit by the drummer, and secondly, it attenuates the amount of cymbal sound reaching the mic. Featuring similar construction to the Voxguard (ABS plastic lined with acoustic foam), Primacoustic say that the Crashguard is both compact and “durable enough to sustain repeated abuse from drummers”!

VoxguardNext comes the Tripad, which comprises three foam ‘feet’ that cushion the three legs of a tripod mic stand and “prevent vibrations from the stage and floor from entering the mic”. On a similar note is the Kickstand, which we reported on back in April. This serves the same purpose of decoupling the mic from the floor, but incorporates a low mic stand designed for holding kick drum mics.

And finally, the Primacoustic Telestand is a mic-stand-mounted holder for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices, the idea being that singers and musicians can use their iPhone or iPod as a teleprompter, set list or chord chart while on stage.

All products in the new IsoTools range are reasonably priced: the Voxguard costs £94.99, the Crashguard retails at £31.53, the Tripad carries a price of £19.71, the Kickstand costs £70.94, and the Telepad will set you back £39.41.
