RJ Studios have announced the release of an ultra-low distortion peak limiter plug-in designed for surround and immersive audio applications. Pristine Peaks IE is a streamlined version of the company’s Pristine Peaks mastering limiter, and has been expanded and optimised to support a range of multi-channel formats.
The plug-in is capable of processing up to 12 channels of audio, allowing it to support channel formats from mono up to 7.1.4. Each channel offers ±5dB of level trim before the limiting stage, which is then capable of applying up to 10dB of gain reduction below its Ceiling setting value.
The company say that Pristine Peaks IE takes a novel approach to dynamics control, and is able to produce a very clean sound that does not break up or distort, even when applying significant gain reduction. Peaks are not saturated or clipped, with the plug-in instead applying gain changes to the entire waveform, resulting in extremely low distortion figures (RJ Studios specify a THD measurement of 0.005% between 20Hz and 20kHz at any gain reduction amount).
All of the channels are equipped with their own Channel Isolate and Bypass controls, allowing for independent channel monitoring and bus separations, and as well as the individual channel trims, there is also a global Drive parameter that offers an additional -10 to +20 dB of pre-limiter gain. The Ceiling parameter can be set anywhere between 0 and -20 dB, and the plug-in provides users with a choice of two different release slope shapes. Lastly, an Output control offers ±15dB of gain adjustment after the limiter.
Compatibility
Pristine Peaks IE is supported on PCs running Windows (no minimum OS requirement specified) and Macs running macOS 10.11 and higher. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
