Alongside their extensive range of audio, video and gaming machines, Scan also offer a custom PC-building service that caters to everything from high-end workstations to completely unique, one-of-a-kind builds. Their latest creation, which has been built for guitarist Martin Miller, falls into the latter category, housing a powerful AMD-based system in a Laney guitar cab!
The cabinet in question is the 1x12 LT112 from the Lionheart range, a favourite of Martin, who is a Laney endorsee. The speaker cone was replaced with a custom mount for a Coolermaster fan, which provides a customisable glow of light behind the speaker cloth. Additional cooling was then added using a pair of be quiet! fans housed in custom enclosures where the cabinet’s carry handles would usually live. The rear panel was replaced with a new panel that features laser-cut venting along with cut-outs for the likes of the motherboard I/O, card slots and power supply connections.
As for the system specs, the one-off build centres around AMD’s flagship 9950X CPU, and boasts 64GB of DDR5 RAM along with a total of 3TB of M.2 NVMe storage. As the system has been designed for video work as well as audio duties, Scan opted for a ASUS RTX 4070 Super Dual EVO graphics card equipped with 12GB of VRAM, allowing the machine to happily tackle 4K editing tasks. The GPU cooler design utilises a semi-passive fan mode that fully spins down the GPU fans when working on less intensive tasks such as audio editing, ramping them back up again when dealing with heavier video workloads.
