Shantanu Hudlikar conducts Soundathon Masterclass

Record with a world-renowned sound engineer

Shantanu HudlikarUBM India is organizing the Soundathon Workshop series, the first of its kind in India. At this workshop a limited number of talented sound engineers will record, mix and work closely with the artist and workshop leader to gain a holistic insight into the actual making of a song. The first edition the Soundathon Workshop Series will be conducted by one of India’s most sought after engineers, Shantanu Hudlikar, at the state-of-the-art Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai from 28th July – 2nd August 2014.

Shantanu Hudlikar, Chief Sound Engineer at Yash Raj Film Studios, says that “there is a philosophy behind creating sound, it’s not just technical, if you see music technically you will never interpret the vision of the musician”.

As a sound engineer who learnt on the job, Shantanu wants to ensure that the quality of sound in India improves. Known as one of the few Sound Engineers in India who understands technology and hardware as much as the creative aspect of sound engineering, Shantanu will be sharing 25 years of his experience in one week.

The Soundathon Workshop is for 30 talented Sound Engineers, who will be getting into the nitty gritty of working in a professional analogue studio.

The workshop will begin with Shantanu and the engineers understanding and interpreting Pangea’s vision for the song, followed by miking and recording techniques with the band. This will be followed by the mixing, editing and post production for the track. The artists will then give their feedback and the track will be finalised. Engineers, producers, vocalists, musicians, teachers and anyone willing to learn, argue, question and push Shantanu to his limits is welcome at this experience of a lifetime.

According to Shantanu "Today it is possible to use replacer toys to make a good sound, but you can’t replace voice, you can’t replace a person’s soul, you can’t replace tonality".
