Sommer Cable Sysboxx II

The ultimate modular patchbay?
As their name suggests, Sommer Cable are experts in wiring, specialising in audio visual applications. But they also manufacture hardware, such as the new Sysboxx II, a rackmountable modular patchbay system that can be configured with a multitude of different connectors.

Building your Sysboxx is easy; just choose the chassis size and which input and output modules you require, then select the appropriate blanking and fascia panels for the front and rear of the device.

The Sommer Cable web site details the different modules available, and it’s not just rows of XLR and jack sockets that you can pick for your system. There are balancing modules that convert balanced signals to unbalanced ones and vice versa, as well SCART sockets and BNC gizmos, plus mammoth multi-pin connectors that enable you to patch multicore cables into and out of your Sysboxx. Internal connections are handled by ribbon cables with gold-plated terminations and locking connectors, ensuring they stay fastened even when on tour.

For further details, and to design your own Sysboxx, visit Sommer Cable’s web site. Sommer have a Sysboxx ‘configurator’, which lets you customise your system on-line, but at the moment this is only in German, although the company say that they are working on an English version.
