Source-Connect 4 gains Dolby Atmos certification

First remote-collaboration tool to achieve official approval

Source Elements have announced that their Source-Connect 4 software has become the industry's first remote-collaboration solution to achieve Dolby Atmos certification with metadata connection to the Dolby Atmos Renderer. The software boasts 128 audio streaming channels and supports any combination of beds and objects, along with full metadata integration, allowing directors and stakeholders to attend Dolby Atmos playback and mixing sessions from their preferred location or setup.

Source-Connect has built up a considerable reputation, and is the go-to remote recording and collaboration software for many working in the broadcast, music and voiceover industries. It provides high-quality, low-latency audio streaming between studios, voice artists and producers over the internet, along with a variety of unique features such as DAW timeline synchronisation and remote recording. Thanks to the newly approved features, the software is now able to cater to Dolby Atmos sessions, allowing producers and engineers to collaborate remotely with the smoothest workflow and in the highest quality.

There is no limitation on channel count, and no additional re-renders are required, meaning the software can be used across a wide range of physical Dolby Atmos speaker configurations. For example, a client on a mix stage in London, UK can stream directly to a another user based in Los Angeles, and because Source-Connect streams the full Dolby Atmos project rather than a real-time re-render, the source setup never limits the destination — a mixer working in headphones can deliver to a 40-speaker cinema rig without compromise. The company’s proprietary Remote Transport Sync protocol allows for full synchronisation between a studio and up to five reviewers and their DAWs — with full beds, objects and metadata all streamed in perfect synchronisation.

“While evaluating Source-Connect’s new Dolby Atmos integration, we recently completed a Dolby Atmos mix for a major streaming title with our director attending remotely from Leavesden, UK, while we worked from our stage in Burbank, California. With Source-Connect, he heard exactly what he needed to hear on a well-equipped mix stage with no compromises, no clunky cumbersome setups, no flying him across the Atlantic. It’s changed how we approach remote sessions entirely by allowing us to compete with an ever challenging business model” - Mark Binder, CEO, IMN Creative

The software is currently available for macOS, and requires the standalone Dolby Atmos Renderer application. Those wishing to find out more about Windows support can contact Source-Elements for more information.
