The Sonic Extension range from Spectrasonics comprises a collection of expansion packs designed exclusively for their Omnisphere softsynth platform, all of which are produced under the direction of the company’s founder Eric Persing. This latest offering, Twisted Trees, has been created by sound designer Diego Stocco, and contains samples from over 400 sound sources captured entirely from custom instruments made using pieces of wood and elements of nature.
Every patch within the expansion is kitted out with a set of custom controls that have been created and fine-tuned specifically for the set of samples, whilst an Elements Mixer function makes it possible for users to automate timbre changes over time. A Scenes function then allows both control and mixer functions to be saved as snapshots, which can be recalled whilst playing via MIDI, automation, or keyboard shortcuts.
A pair of exclusive new effects are also included: Twisted Space and Twisted Root, both of which can also be used with any other Omnisphere sounds. The former is an ambience processor which utilises a combination of DSP algorithms and natural element recordings made by Diego, including animals, trees, streams and caves. The latter then acts as a multi-band subsonic enhancer, providing sustain and level control over four frequency bands along with Sub Octave, Hype and Drive parameters that aim to add additional weight and power to sound sources.
“After over two decades of working together and being inspired by Diego’s boundless creativity, we couldn’t be more thrilled to release this incredible new Sonic Extension featuring his sonic genius. So much passion, sweat and joy went into making Twisted Trees, we absolutely can’t wait to hear how it inspires the world of Omnisphere users!” - Eric Persing, Spectrasonics Founder and Creative Director
