Spitfire Audio Labs become free and get dedicated plug-in.

Company to donate 1% of gross income to charity

Spitfire Audio's 'Labs' libraries have long been popular among composers because they offer high quality sounds at a very low price — in fact, any Labs product could be acquired in exchange for a donation to one of Spitfire's partner charities. Now, the British sample library experts are making all Labs products entirely free.

In the spirit of making Labs even more accessible, Spitfire will be relaunching Labs with their own dedicated plug-in, so Kontakt is no longer required. For the new interface, Spitfire Audio have partnered up with Ustwo, the design company behind the new Hans Zimmer Strings instrument, as well as the Monument Valley iOS game and the Headspace meditation app.

The new Labs, which are being described as an 'infinite series" which the company will continue to add to — already consists of instruments such as Frozen Strings and Felt Piano, the latter of which featured in the soundtrack for feature film Lion.

Spitfire have announced that over £260,000 has already been raised for their partner charities by Labs donations, and in order to keep up their good work, they've committed to donating 1% of their gross income to those same charities.

We look forward to trying all the Labs libraries in good conscience as soon as they're available.
