Spitfire Audio’s series of Originals libraries continues to grow, providing users with a range of affordable instruments, ensembles and sound sources. This latest offering, Originals Epic Choir, features a 50-piece ensemble of London’s finest vocalists recorded at the renowned Lyndhurst Hall at AIR Studios.
Originals Epic Choir features a 50-piece ensemble recorded at Lyndhurst Hall at AIR Studios.The ensemble is divided into two sections — Sopranos / Altos, and Tenors / Basses — with each section featuring the same twelve articulations covering shorts, longs, and a range of vowel sounds. A ‘Tightness’ control allows users to cut further into the start of notes for short articulations, whilst long articulations have some adjustment available via a ‘Release’ function. The plug-in also features its own built-in hall-style impulse reverb.
Three microphone signals are on offer: ‘Close’ provides a summed signal of all of the spot microphones for a clear and detailed sound, whilst ‘Tree’ gives a more spacious sound captured from further back using a Decca tree array. A third option entitled ‘Ethereal’ has been treated with saturation, reverb and EQ which Spitfire Audio say “adds texture, brightness and width to the vocals for a glistening and shimmering sound, while still retaining an organic feel”.

As with all of the Originals libraries, Epic Choir comes housed within Spitfire’s own plug-in, which is available in VST2, VST3, AAX and AU formats. Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11 (latest Service Pack, 64-bit only) are all supported, along with macOS X 10.13 through to macOS 12. It can be downloaded and installed via the Spitfire Audio App, with a download size of 2.92GB.
