The latest addition to SSL’s family of plug-ins promises to deliver an authentic recreation of some classic spring reverb effects, but also includes some parameters that allow it to offer far more control than would be possible on a physical unit.
SpringVerb has been carefully modelled on some of the most popular reverb tanks, and includes three models that each deliver a different ‘flavour’ of classic spring effects. Users are able to blend seamlessly between single-, double- and triple-spring setups, while a Tension parameter facilitates everything from tight, controlled reverbs to classic twangy goodness — there’s even a Boing button that can be used to pluck the virtual springs in order to “unleash chaotic resonance”!
More typical parameters include a Time dial for setting decay time (which can be locked to a tempo-based value thanks to a Sync button) and a Width control for adjusting the effect’s stereo image. Drive and Damp sections offer some tonal shaping of the reverb signal, with the former adding some saturation to the input signal and the latter allowing the removal of excessive high- or low-frequency content.
