SSL have just announced the launch of a new plug-in designed to transform DI signals taken from an acoustic guitar into studio-quality recordings. Acoustifier uses advanced modelling techniques to emulate the sound of a dual-mic setup, and comes loaded with built-in EQ, compressor and reverb sections.
Acoustifier offers a choice of four body types — two dreadnought variations, a jumbo/large body, and a concert/orchestra model — allowing users to pick the closest match for their guitar before selecting from a choice of microphone types and positions. Dynamic, ribbon and condenser options are joined by X-Y and spaced pair configurations, and it’s possible to blend between body and neck signals to fine-tune the overall tone of the resulting signal. The plug-in aims to breath some life into recorded DI signals, offering a convenient solution to those who don’t have access to an appropriate recording space, as well as helping to improve the quality of live performances or recordings.
A built-in EQ section features a quick-access tilt band that can quickly shift the overall tonal balance towards the high or low end, along with high- and low-pass filters. Three fully customisable mid bands are then on offer for some more in-depth tweaking. A compressor follows, offering everything from subtle gain reduction to more extreme effects, and there’s an Auto Gain button that engages automatic level compensation. Finally, an onboard reverb offers a curated selection of room, chamber, plate and hall reverb types derived from SSL’s FlexVerb, and includes a Ducking section that automatically lowers the reverb level in response to the input signal to ensure the guitar sound isn’t overwhelmed by the reverb signal.
