New facility for Teesside University
As students and staff at the University of Teesside await their new £22 million Institute of Digital Innovation and Centre for Creative Technologies, which is due to be open by September 2007, we can give you some insight as to what's going to be inside the new facility from a music technology perspective.
Digital Music students will have access to a state-of-the-art Pro Tools rig, situated in a 7.1-capable control room. The live room will be a two-storey, 100 square-metre 'sound stage', and a workstation room with dual-screen Carillon PC systems running Pro Tools and Sonar will also be in the new facility, while specialised 'rendering workstations' will be on-hand for heavy-duty multimedia tasks.
The University of Teesside's School of Computing offers two music-related courses: BA (Hons) Digital Music and Digital Media, and BSc (Hons) Music Software Development and are among the front-runners in educational research into music and audio software programming.
