Philharmonia launch contest for songwriters


Groove Search is a contest that has been launched by the Philharmonia Orchestra, and is aimed at budding songwriters of any genre. Entrants are asked to submit just 30 seconds of their material in any style, from conventional guitar and vocal line-ups to 30-piece Gamelan orchestras performing ambient trip-hop.

The one rule is that material must be original, and you must enter by the 22nd December. To enter, click here.

20 winning entrants will have their music performed by the 45-piece Philharmonia Orchestra and recorded at Abbey Road, London.

The contest is part of an initiative to demonstrate that the Philharmonia is interested in music from everywhere. Richard Slaney, Education Manager at the Philharmonia stated, "Groove Search is about finding new ways to access the work that orchestras do as well as providing a new way for budding musicians to get their work performed, recorded and heard".

So, what are you waiting for? Entries can be submitted as an MP3 file, or on CD, minidisc or tape and either posted to:
