Electronic music composer and educator Sarah Belle Reid has released a video that offers an in-depth explanation and demonstration of the first ever modular synthesizer created by legendary designer Don Buchla.
Titled ‘Exploring the 1st Buchla 100 Modular Synthesizer’, the video begins with a brief historical overview of the Buchla 100 Series Modular System and the San Francisco Tape Music Center, followed by detailed breakdown of each of the instrument's modules, complete with sound demos and examples. Finally, Reid shares some of the unique quirks of the Mills Buchla 100 instrument, along with a selection of patch examples that demonstrate how the instrument can be used to create a wide range of music and sounds.
