Leading software developers join the Avid family
Digidesign have announced the acquistion of virtual instrument, plug-in effect and sample library designers Wizoo Sound Design GmbH.
Wizoo, whose most recent releases include the Latigo and Darbuka virtual instruments and the Wizooverb convolution reverb, are based in Bremen, Germany. The company is headed up by noted sound designer Peter Gorges, Steinberg co-founder Manfred Ruerup and movie music composer Hans Zimmer.
Beyond Wizoo's range of products and staff, a key asset, and the main objective of the acquisition, is their intellectual property — Wizoo's sampling and synthesis technologies are hard at work 'under the hood' of many third-party instruments.
The plan seems to be to integrate Wizoo's sampling and convolution technologies in new products for the Pro Tools platform. In Digidesign's official statement, Avid VP Dave Lebolt says, "We plan to deliver powerful integrated synthesis and sampling instruments that provide the highest levels of quality and reliability for music creation, post production and sound design."
