Digidesign announce M Box 2 Mini
It only feels like yesterday when we were reporting the news of Digidesign's M Box 2 Pro, a larger version of the company's popular portable audio interface, and already there's something new to talk about: its baby brother, the M Box 2 Mini.
The M Box 2 Mini is a USB audio interface for Pro Tools LE that's capable of handling 24-bit/48kHz signals. It has two analogue inputs, both of which feature line/instrument inputs. A mic can be plugged into Input 1 using an XLR connection, through which the unit can supply phantom power. Analogue outputs are handled by a pair of unbalanced jack sockets. Front-panel controls include headphone/monitor level, monitor source mixer knob and mute switch, and input levels, as well as an USB connection status LED and a headphone socket. Power can only be sourced from USB, and a suitable cable is included.
As expected, the M Box 2 Mini ships with Digidesign's PC and Mac-compatible Pro Tools LE software, along with a range of bundled software from FXpansion, Propellerhead and Ableton, as well as Digidesign's own Advanced Instrument Research (AIR) department.
Branded by Digi as 'the world's smallest, most affordable Pro Tools LE system ever', the 'Mini' measures just 12.7 x 4.4 x 15.2 cm (WxHxD) and weighs just over 500 grams. It's set to retail in the UK for £195, and it should be in stores by December.
