SSL Mynx

Two-unit housing for X-Rack modules
The Solid State Logic (SSL) X-Rack range of modular outboard processors just keeps on growing. And with the introduction of the Mynx, a two-unit housing, it’s now within the reaches of even more users.

Before the Mynx was launched, the only chassis for the SSL modules was the standard 4U rackmountable frame that holds up to eight X-Rack modules and costs around £850. To many potential customers, this is prohibitively expensive; for that price they can pick up a more-than-capable channel strip. The Mynx costs £294 including VAT, and as such allows people on ‘prosumer’ budgets to get SSL gear in their studios.

The Mynx can be fitted with two modules, so you could, for example, choose a mic amp and a dynamics module for a mobile vocal-tracking rig, or EQ and dynamics modules for a versatile instrument-processing set-up. Alternatively, you could fit the SSL G-series stereo bus compressor, although this takes up both of the Mynx’s module slots.

The Mynx is made from chunky aluminium, and it takes up a surprisingly small amount of space on a desktop. Audio inputs and outputs are located on the back of each module, and it’s powered by an external power supply. The Mynx does not support SSL's Total Recall system.
