At the 135th AES convention in New York, Aphex were debuting a pair of new 500-series modules. The first is a 500-series version of their rack mounted channel strip called the Project Channel. The new unit features a Class-A mic preamp, an optical compressor and a two-band sweepable EQ built into a one-unit box. Although final price is yet to be confirmed, Aphex are saying the Project 500 will be priced "aggressively" at well under $500, making this an attractive prospect.
The second new module from Aphex is the CX 500 – a reissue of the 1970s VCA compressor with built in gate. It is also set to ship before the end of the year and will cost less than $500.
