Thex-up your thinging
Antares, developers of the world-renowned Auto-Tune pitch-correction software, have announced a new PC-only application called Voice Thing, which is designed to bring a bit of fun to voice manipulation.
The software receives its signal from the audio interface, and the connected microphone, and outputs to “any PC application that accepts audio input”. This means, obviously, DAW software such as Cubase or Sonar, for example, but also computer games, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) applications, and video-editing packages.
Once set up, the user can sculpt their voice using a variety of parameters on Voice Thing’s GUI. Sections include Voice Design, where you can change the ‘throat length’ and shift the pitch of the incoming voice; Mutate, which transforms the voice into a robotic-sounding garble; Alienize, which has a simple on/off control, and Reverb, where a number of interesting time-based effects can be added. You select your input using a Setup section, and it’s here that there’s also a CPU efficiency control, which enables you to command Voice Thing to be less CPU-intensive, so your computer can concetrate on running your main software.
Voice Thing is available now from Antares’ web site, costing a mere $35 (about £18).
