The latest addition to the Audiokids product range has been created with the aim of helping audio editors save a significant amount of time when swapping out large quantities of audio clips. Available exclusively for Pro Tools users on macOS, Synchronicity promises to turn hours of work replacing Foley and sound design clips into just minutes or seconds.
Synchronicity is available as an AudioSuite plug-in, and features a simple GUI that’s split into Source and Destination sections. Getting started is as simple as selecting the audio that needs replacing and assigning it to the Destination panel using a Load Audio button in the plug-in, and then selecting the new audio and assigning it to the Source panel.
Sync Points are generated automatically, and Synchronicity comes loaded with a wide range of presets that tailor its behaviour to suit some of the most common sound effects, but users are also provided with tools for fine-tuning the results or making their own manual selections. Helpfully, the plug-in also allows markers to be imported from the Pro Tools timeline and used as Sync Points.
There are four modes that define the order in which sounds are moved from the Source track to the Destination track.
- The first, default mode is Sequential, which maintains the order of slices found in the Source track.
- Level mode then replaces audio with whichever slices are the closest in terms of volume.
- Proximity mode pairs Source and Destination slices based on their timeline positions.
- Finally, there’s Shuffle, which simply selects random slices.
The manufacturer's video tutorial below shows Synchronicity being used to replace a ticking clock sound while maintaining the timing of the original track.
Compatibility
- Synchronicity is supported on Macs running macOS 10.14.6 (Sonoma) and higher, and requires Pro Tools 2022.12 or above.
- Audiokids recommend a spec of macOS 12.7 and later, and Pro Tools 2024.6 or above. It’s also an AudioSuite-only plug-in — there is no real-time AAX version available.
