Black Lion Audio to launch Revolution 14x16

Interface range to gain new flagship model

Black Lion Audio Revolution 14x16 audio interface ADAT S/PDIF

Having built up a solid reputation for developing modifications for a range of popular pro-audio gear, Black Lion Audio now offer an extensive collection of their own preamps, processors, interfaces, master clocks, patchbays and power conditioners. Their latest announcement relates to their interface family, which will soon be extended to include the Revolution 14x16, a new 14-in/16-out model equipped with the company’s Auter preamps.

Analogue & Digital I/O

Housed in a 1U chassis, the Revolution 14x16 includes four analogue mic/line inputs, the first two of which are equipped with the transformer-coupled Auter preamps. The design, which has previously only been available in Black Lion Audio’s standalone preamp units, utilises Cinemag transformers and is said to offer the ‘best of both worlds’, with lower gain levels offering the fast attack associated with classic American preamps and higher levels delivering the warmth and colour of iconic British designs. They can be accessed from both the front and rear panels, and their large gain controls are joined by phantom power, pad and polarity switches. Channels three and four then feature the same preamps used in the rest of the Revolution series and omit the pad and polarity switches.

A set of eight rear-panel TRS connectors provide a balanced insert send and return for all four channels, with the return sockets doubling up as line-level inputs. Thanks to the sends, it’s possible to use the Revolution 14x16 as a standalone preamp unit without a computer connected. All four insert points are switchable via a set of front-panel buttons, making quick work of carrying out A/B comparisons with any connected processors or effects. There are three headphone outputs, each of which can carry its own unique mix thanks to a built-in Mix Edit function.

As for digital connectivity, the interface is kitted out with S/PDIF I/O (on a pair of RCA connectors) as well as eight channels of ADAT in each direction via a pair of Toslink connectors. It uses the company’s patented Macro-MMC clocking, and provides a Word Clock input and output via two BNC connectors.
