Get kitted out for less
If you’ve always wanted an electronic drum kit, but have never been able to stump up the big bucks usually needed to buy one, this may be of interest. It’s the Digital Drums 502J from Gear 4 Music, which is a snip at just £300.
The package comprises a total of eight pads, including hi-hat and cymbals, and two pedals, for triggering the bass drum and hi-hat. Also included is a sound module with 215 multi-sampled drum, cymbal and percussion sounds, banked into 30 customisable kits.
Amazingly, considering the low price of the kit, the brain has individual audio outputs for each of the pads, and MIDI connectivity enables you to take control of a virtual drum instrument running on a computer, so you can get all the groove of a real drummer without needing a nice-sounding room and a wardrobe full of mics (or a real drum kit!). There’s also a stereo headphones output and a main line output, so you can feed a PA system — when playing live, for example.
