Warm Audio have introduced a trio of new microphones that build on the success of their WA-47jr, which has become one of the company’s best-selling models. The first of the new additions, the WA-87jr brings a new version of Warm Audio’s U87-inspired offering to the Jr Series, while the WA-47jr Studio Essential and WA-87jr Studio Essential make both popular designs available at an even lower price.
WA-47jr & WA-47jr Studio Essential
All of the new mics employ the same capsule as their flagship counterparts, and have been designed to deliver the same sonic character but with a reduced set of features. The WA-47jr features Warm Audio’s dual-backplate K47-style capsule and offers three selectable polar patterns (cardioid, omni, figure-of-eight), along with a -10dB pad and a 70 Hz high-pass filter. It promises to deliver a rich, warm sound on sources such as vocals, acoustic guitar, drums, pianos, streaming, podcasts and more, and comes supplied with a professional shockmount, hard mount and a leather storage pouch.
The new WA-47jr Studio Essential (SE), meanwhile, retains the same core tonal profile, but features a single-backplate version of the K47-style capsule and offers a fixed-cardioid design. It still boasts the same ultra-low self-noise, wide dynamic range and fully discrete signal path of the Jr version, and is said to deliver a professional studio sound straight out of the box. The company say that the model is perfect for musicians, streamers, podcasters and voice artists who don’t require the pattern switching or onboard controls found on its siblings.
WA-87jr & WA-87jr Studio Essential
The WA-87jr features a dual-backplate K87-style capsule paired with a transformerless, low-noise circuit, and offers a choice of three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, figure-of-eight), as well as featuring a -10dB pad and a 70Hz high-pass filter. Again, the mic is supplied with a professional shockmount, hard mount and leather storage pouch.
The WA-87jr Studio Essential then simplifies the design of the WA-87jr while preserving its core tonal qualities. As with its WA-47jr SE counterpart, it uses a single-backplate version of the K87-style capsule — and so is a cardioid-only design — as well as maintaining the Jr’s ultra-low self-noise, wide dynamic range and fully discrete signal path.
