Triton Audio are probably best known to most for the FetHead range, a series of in-line preamps designed to provide low-output microphones with some additional gain. They’ve now announced the launch of the Kompressor, which places a simple compressor inside the same compact housing.
The built-in compressor is an all-analogue affair that employs a JFET/opto design, and the unit is capable of delivering up to 25dB of gain, with that figure gradually reducing as more compression is applied. Adjustment can be made using a single control that simply ranges from Less to More, while an orange LED provides users with a visual indication of the incoming signal reaching the compression threshold.
As with the FetHead range, the Kompressor draws its power from the connected device’s phantom supply; it’s been designed with valve, dynamic and ribbon mics in mind, so the power isn’t passed on to the connected device, meaning it’s safe to use with the likes of vintage ribbon mics.
