Korg expand and contract...

...at the same time!
Synth pioneers Korg have announced a brand new synth workstation and an 'Expanded' version of their top-of-the-line M3 workstation.

The M50 is a product that's got the essence of the Korg 'M' series running through its veins. With a touch-screen at its heart and a almost 1000 instrument patches and combinations, it looks to be a popular product, especially considering its low price of £899 for the 61-key 'synth action' model, and £1499 for the 88-note version (pictured above), which has Korg's acclaimed hammer-action keyboard.

Bundled computer editing software and a VST-, Audio Units- and RTAS- compatible plug-in (which lets you use the M50 like a virtual instrument in your favorite DAW software) will no doubt interest the computer-based workstation fan, while a dedicated MIDI sequencer will give the hardware-only user all they need to create professional-sounding tracks straight out of the box.

Sound On Sound have the world exclusive review of the M50 in the October 2008 issue of the magazine, which can be accessed on-line.

The second new product from Korg is the M3 Expanded, a version of their M3 synth workstation. The Expanded version has new sample sets for piano and what Korg call 'classic keyboards', while the on-board sequencer and user interface have been updated, apparently making the keyboard easier to use.

What's more, the M3 Expanded comes with the Korg PCM01, PCM02 and PCM03 sample expander packs, giving the user top-quality brass, woodwinds and a concert grand piano, with a total of over 130 new instrument patches and 38 new combinations to choose from.

Pricing information for the M3 Expanded was to be confirmed at the time of writing, although Korg say it should be shipping in October 2008.
