Massenburg Design Works MDWDRC2 plug-in was designed to provide users with the most transparent dynamics processing possible, and is capable of applying significant amounts of gain reduction while avoiding many of the common side-effects. To find out more its unique approach, you can take a look at our review in the January 2023 issue of SOS.
With stereo and mono sources taken care of, the company set about creating a version that supports multi-channel formats all the way up to 9.1.6, making the powerful tool available to those mixing in immersive formats such as Dolby Atmos. The resulting plug-in, MDWDRC3, is now available, and also introduces some new features which have been added to MDWDRC2 as part of a free update.
Aside from the obvious change of being able to apply its processing across 16 individual channels, the new plug-in has gained Discreet and Loudness control modes, which allow the processor’s detector to work on either a per-channel basis or using the overall loudness of the entire mix. To offer users precise control over their dynamics, the company have also added a Steering control that makes it possible to blend seamlessly between the two modes on each of the input channels. Additionally, a new Loudness Weighting Section provides individual detector weighting controls for each channel (or groups of channels) when using Loudness mode.

MDWDRC3 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 12.7.4 and above. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
