Mojave Audio MA201FET

FET by name...

Californian microphone manufacturers Mojave Audio have released a new model into their range which has, until now, comprised only tube-based mics.

The new MA201FET is a large-diaphragm fixed-cardioid condenser mic, so is just like Mojave’s existing MA200 in some respects. But, as its name suggests, the new model is a FET (Field-Effect Transisitor) microphone, meaning it uses solid-state circuitry rather than tubes. Mojave Audio say that the benefits of the 201’s solid-state circuitry give the mic a faster transient response, and therefore “a bit more of a presence peak”, compared to the tube-based MA200.

As with the majority of mics these days, the Mojave Audio MA201FET comes in a rugged flightcase-style box, and ships with a shockmount. At the time of writing, the UK price was unavailable, although the US dollar price of $695 should give you a good idea of how much it will cost. In the UK, Funky Junk handle the distribution of the Mojave range.
