Native Instruments release Scene: Saffron

Instrument boasts polyphonic aftertouch support

Native Instruments Scene Saffron cinematic soundscape orchestral synthesizer virtual instrument

Designed with media composers in mind, the latest additon to Native Instruments’ Komplete range combines a collection of cinematic sounds with a simple and intuitive user interface. Scene: Saffron promises to deliver emotion, tension and drama, and is aimed at both newcomers and seasoned pros alike.

The instrument relies on a pair of sample layers that each host a mixture of sampled orchestral and synthesized sounds — 16 sound sources are included — and the GUI features a central X-Y pad that allows users to blend seamlessly between the two layers and introduce a range of modulations and effects. There are 120 carefully designed presets included which can be freely edited, and there’s also a dice icon that will create a random patch to provide a starting point.

A collection of built-in effects including reverbs, delays and modulation processors are included, and there’s a set of dials placed in the main display window that offer hands-on control over the likes of volume, tuning and key effects parameters. The instrument also supports polyphonic aftertouch, providing users with compatible keyboards with expressive control over its volume, tuning and motion features.

Compatibility

Scene: Saffron runs in Native Instruments’ Kontakt or free Kontakt Player versions 7.10.5 and higher, which are supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 12 and later. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.

Pricing & Availability

Scene: Saffron is available now, priced at $£29 including VAT.
