UMD192 interface from SSL

“The most powerful MADI & Dante interface available”

SSL UMD192 digital audio interface USB MADI Dante

SSL’s latest audio interface is an all-digital affair that has been designed to meet the demands of professional live sound, broadcast and high-end studios. Equipped with MADI, Dante and USB connectivity, the UMD192 is capable of delivering 192 channels at 48 and 92 kHz, or 128 channels at 192kHz.

The UMD192 is capable of providing bi-directional audio between any two formats (MADI, Dante or USB), making it an ideal choice for bridging multiple MADI-connected devices into a Dante network, or for high-channel-count recording and playback via USB 3.0. Helpfully, a split feed can be routed to the third format.

The device delivers fully interoperable Dante AoIP with AES67 and ST 2110 (with DDM) support, boasts a Dante latency figure of just 0.25 ms, and can be clocked from either MADI or Dante. Six MADI BNC pairs allow the UMD192 to be configured in redundant mode, enabling three dual-redundant MADI connections to be provided for mission-critical broadcast and live events.

Although its most obvious application is in the broadcast and large-format live sound world, the UMD192 promises to be equally valuable in high-channel-count studio sessions. The company say that as well as being an ideal companion for System T consoles, its connectivity makes it a good fit for Dante-equipped Harrison 32Classic consoles, as well as their own offerings such as the Oracle and Origin (paired with Dante or MADI converters).

A front-panel display provides real‑time feedback on signal flow, sample‑rate sync, power status, network connectivity and more, and the controls are locked by default to protect users’ predefined configurations and prevent accidental changes. As for power, the UMD192 supports AC mains, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and USB. Each power source can be used on its own, or in conjunction with another for redundancy. For example, the AC input can be paired with a PoE injector to create a simple redundant power configuration when a PoE switch isn’t available.

The UMD192 is a class-compliant digital audio interface that operates natively with macOS Core Audio with no additional drivers required. On Windows systems, the UMD192 requires the SSL ASIO driver, which is available as a free download from the Solid State Logic Support portal. These ASIO drivers are multi-client, enabling multiple ASIO applications to access the interface simultaneously.
