Native Instruments announce Traktor Play

DJ software range gains new packed-down version

Native Instruments Traktor Play DJ software

Native Instruments’ Traktor platform pairs their renowned DJ software with a range of hardware controllers designed to provide users with in-depth, hands-on control over their performances. The latest arrival to the range, Traktor Play, offers a new entry-level version of the software, and for the first time, opens up the ecosystem to third-party hardware.

Traktor Play

The latest version of Traktor has been developed with the aim of making it easy for anyone to get started with DJing, with no steep learning curve and no extra gear required. It features the same engine as the flagship version, and can function as a software-only system with no external controller required. There are two decks, along with the same sync, key detection and key correction features, while a collection of high-quality effects include reverb, delay, gating and a master limiter. Users are also able to access millions of tracks via Beatport Streaming — a free month’s subscription for Beatport Streaming Advanced is included with every purchase.

Native Instruments Traktor Play DJ softwareTraktor Play kits users out with two virtual decks and an array of built-in effects.

Key Features

  • Studio-quality reverb, delay and gate effects.
  • Mixer FX for one-knob filter sweeps and delays.
  • Stem separation makes it possible to mute drums with a single button.
  • Pattern Player loaded with an 808 kit for hands-on beat-making.
  • Looping, Hot Cues, Flux Mode and more features designed to build energy and keep a set moving.

Hardware Partners

Traktor Play represents a major step forward for NI by opening the Traktor ecosystem to new hardware partners. The software will boast plug-and-play compatibility for the popular AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2 and DDJ-FLX4 controllers, meaning DJs who want to use Traktor now have greater freedom when choosing their hardware. Traktor Play will also come bundled with the Reloop Buddy and Reloop Ready controllers, which, while not plug-and-play, can be configured with just a few additional clicks. This appears to outline the shape of things to come for the software side of Traktor, with NI saying that the freedom of choice will continue to grow as they expand their list of partners.

“Partnering directly with AlphaTheta and Reloop marks an exciting new chapter for Traktor. This collaboration means DJs have more flexibility, more accessibility and more ways to connect with Traktor than ever before.” - Simon Cross, CPTO, Native Instruments
