Novo Notes have announced the release of Ambience Enhancer Standard, a plug-in which allows users to control the level of ambient components within a recorded signal. This version of the plug-in is equipped with the same features as the company’s Lite version (which is available for free), but increases the channel count from two up to 24, allowing the processor to support multi-channel surround and immersive audio formats.
Ambience Enhancer analyses the incoming audio and splits it into ambient and direct components. Users are then able to use an Ambience Gain parameter to precisely control the level of ambient sound, shape its signal with a low-pass filter, and introduce a delay to the ambient component via an Ambience Delay control.
Novo Notes say that because the plug-in provides a way of enhancing the existing room acoustics captured in a recording, it prevents the unwanted side effects that can be introduced by adding an artificial reverb to a sound with existing reverberation. The processing involved separates the signals based on the phase differences between the multiple channels, so whilst it is effective for stereo and multi-channel sources, it is not designed to be used with mono sources.
In addition to the existing Lite and Standard plug-ins, Novo Notes are currently developing a multi-band version which will be released at a later date.
Compatibility
Ambience Enhancer Standard is supported on Mac computers running macOS 11.0 or later. The software is not yet compatible with Windows. Both Intel and Apple Silicon CPUs are supported, and the plug-in is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. An internet connection is required for installation.

Ambience Enhancer Standard is available now from the Novo Notes website, and is currently available for an introductory price of $58 (reduced from $68) until the end of October 2022.
