Origin Effects’ Amp Recreation series aim to capture the sound and feel of some of the world’s most sought-after vintage valve amps, and the latest addition to the range pays tribute to none other than a 1955 Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe.
Employing the latest version of the transistor-based Amp Recreation circuitry first seen in the company’s RevivalDRIVE pedals, the DELUXE55 promises to deliver the same versatile range of tones that have made the Tweed Deluxe a much-loved classic. It simulates the original unit’s 6V6-based power amp’s overdrive, valve rectifier sag, phase inverter distortion and the fat, gritty tone associated with the Tweed Deluxe’s unconventional preamp design.
It also replicates the effect of swapping out the amp’s 12AY7 valve for a 12AX7, a popular mod carried out by many owners that can be toggled on and off on the DELUXE55 thanks to a top-panel switch. Origin’s PostEQ circuit is present, too, which uses a post-drive filter to tailor the output of the pedal to work seamlessly with traditional amps, cabinet simulators or flat power amps, making authentic Tweed tones available in any kind of rig.
“We’ve redesigned our Amp Recreation circuitry for even more realism. And what better way to show it off than by recreating an amp with such character. The Tweed Deluxe is so responsive and nuanced, and we’re really proud to have been able to get that same tone and playing experience from the DELUXE55. - John Dines, Product Manager, Origin Effects
