Fab new features for effect plug-in
Software developers Overloud have updated their Breverb reverb effect plug-in to version 1.5 (we reviewed v1 in SOS June 2008 and on-line here).
The update brings to Breverb more presets, better automation support for the virtual sliders, and improved stability. Significantly, users can run Breverb as a standalone processor on both PC and Mac with version 1.5, something that wasn’t possible in the original release, and there’s a new set of what the developers call “dynamic, level driven, parameters”. These turn the input into a control signal that can be used to automate the reverb level, reverb time and EQ controls.
So if Breverb is being used to provide a vocal reverb, for example, the engineer can set the plug-in to only respond to loud notes, such as those in the chorus, making the quieter verses more intimate. Equally, louder notes could change the length of the reverb tail, so a loud snare drum ‘crack‘ could be followed by a fizz of reverb, while the standard hits get treated with a shorter effect — all without manual adjustment of the parameters.
The update is free for registered users, and can be downloaded from Overloud’s web site. If you’re not already a Breverb user, you can purchase the plug-in for £199. It works as a VST, Audio Units or RTAS plug-in on Mac and PC.
